The Benton Panther Wrestling Team is approaching our 2012 season tryouts, and we are looking for motivated High School students, interested in participating in Wrestling. Joining a wrestling team is one of the best choices you can make!

Wrestling has a ton of benefits such as:
- Build Strength – Wrestling can help improve your core strength and overall strength, improving performance for any other sport as well!
- Gain Speed – A trait of top wrestlers is speed. Wrestling will improve your linear speed
- Improve Agility – All wrestlers have to be able to move fast and quickly in any direction to make and avoid takedowns. The agility you gain will help you in other sports as well as wrestling
- Flexibility – Flexibility and learning how to properly stretch to prevent injury is extremely important in life, whether you do sports or not. With wrestling you will learn how to take care of yourself and prevent injuries. The added flexibility will also help your performance on the mat or in other sports.
- Cardio – You will be in the best shape of your life after training wrestling.
- Discipline – Wrestling requires discipline: discipline to make weight, to eat right, and to exercise right. All of these traits will help you later in life, as well as now.
- Competition – In wrestling you get to compete! You’ll get to travel to do some matches, as well as perform right here at home.
- Self Defense Training – some of the best non violent self defense is wrestling. Wrestling teaches you how to take an opponent to the ground, control position and escape, or how to get off your back and get up if you are taken to the ground. 90% of self defense scenarios end with 1 person on the ground. Wrestling can give you the know-how to take care of your self and escape.
- College Admissions – While wrestling is relatively new in Arkansas, many colleges are adding wrestling, and scholarships are available. Wrestling can help you achieve your college goals.
- Confidence – Feel better about yourself with exercise. As you see all of the physical benefits that come from wrestling, and as you overcome personal obstacles, you will notice your confidence grows. Confidence is directly related to performance and success on and off the mats.
- Coordination – You will learn secret drills to help your hand eye coordination. As your body becomes more coordinated you can move faster and perform better.
- Balance – work on your balance with wrestling
- Stress Relief – It’s well known that exercise reduces stress and anxiety. What better way to end a day of hard work at school than with productive exercise? You will feel less tired, less stressed and in an overall better mood when you exercise
- FUN ! Most importantly, wrestling is fun! It’s a team and an individual sport, and the benefits are limitless.
In addition to all of these great benefits, Wrestling is different from other High School Sports. Wrestling is a team sport and an individual sport. In Wrestling, there are weight classes, so ANYONE can participate, even youth who might have been too small or short for other sports such as football or basketball. In wrestling you compete against people your own weight and size. While the team atmosphere helps you reach your goals, you are also working towards personal goals and overcoming personal obstacles. When you step on the mat, it’s all you!
Wrestling Benefits Can Carry Over To Other Sports
Even if you compete in other sports such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, etc, don’t discount the benefits of wrestling. In fact there is no better athlete than a conditioned top wrestler. You might be asking yourself “What does wrestling have to do with football, basketball, baseball, soccer, etc?” The answer is “Everything”. Things like strength, speed, agility, coordination, flexibility all make you a better athlete, and training wrestling will help you perform better, no matter what sport you participate in, period! One of the great things about wrestling is that it’s a winter sport, so it’s opportune for football players, as they can participate in the off season.
